Community Relations Policy Statement

It is the Policy of Seina Marine Limited (SML) to create a good working relationship with the indigenes of the host community where our projects are domiciled.

Management shall liaise with client’s Community Liaison Officer (CLO), and the host communities before commencement of entry activities for project execution, with the aim of reducing or eliminating disruptions during the actual contract execution.

The issues to be considered by SML are as follows:

• Pro-active resolutions of disputes misunderstanding.

• Use of local labour from the host community for both skilled and unskilled aspects of projects.

• Seek and develop local and indigenous workers with the aim of transferring technology and equipping them to be self- reliant in compliance with Federal Government of Nigeria Local Content Policy.

• Adequate communication with host communities/authorities and proper homage to the appropriate authorities of the host community.

• Identification of registered local contractors to engage as vendors on the project.

The objectives of our Community Relations Plan are as follows:

• To create an enabling environment for the transfer of skills to community workers with the aim of leaving them better than we met them

• To work in harmony with the host communities

• To promote a healthy mutual relationship that will be beneficial to all parties

• To reduce down time due to community disturbances

• To eliminate direct confrontation with host communities

The above stated objectives shall be achieved through the following means:

• Upon contract award, Seina Marine Limited shall schedule for a meeting with the client community liaison officer.

• The company has competent and well- trained personnel who work as CLOs, and are familiar with our host communities. They coordinate the community relations program and shall liaise with the relevant bodies in the implementation of  the company’s Community Relations Policy.

• The CLO shall be available on 24 hours basis to handle any community issues that may arise.

• Arrange for and agree with the community representatives on percentage of local participation in the project and percentage of labour participation from each of the host communities in a case where there are more than one community involved.

• Determine level of community development projects to engage in.

• Abide by the employment quota as contained in the memorandum of understanding between client, Seina Marine Limited and the host communities.

We believe that peaceful co-existence of our project team and host community is not just beneficial to both parties, but to the client and the Nigerian economy as a whole.

Hence, our Management is committed to a healthy relationship between Seina Marine Limited and host communities.
